Winter

Today, we had 50 cm of snow. That is the best insulating cover for plants...no need to worry about cold...and it is cold. For days we have sub zero temperatures, last four days is -8 Celsius.
This is perfect Christmas time.
And snow keeps on going...

Luckily, I have put my winter tyres just a few days ago. What a relief :)

Plants under heavy burden of snow. This will keep them warm over cold and long winter months.

Here, this was suposed to be my garden pond with fish...koi...

"Everything Else"

...will be a new part of SandevBonsai blog where all the stuff that has nothing to do with bonsai will be placed. These are all little things that make my heart happy and life more colourful. So I want to share them with you my bonsai friends...and...maybe we'll find even more things that can keep us closer to each other...some new hobby...another passion...who knows.
Greetings to you all, wherever you are... :)

First posts soon (I have to do something while I wait for winter to pass away and more yamadori collecting can be done!)

What has happened with my little prunus? (prunus domestica update 4 - basic structure)

http://sandevbonsai.blogspot.com/2008/12/prunus-domestica-ljiva.html

Well, on the upper link you can see the beginning of the "prunus domestica story". (sorry, this post was still written in croatian...but, you can look at the "motorsaw foto session" :) )
This incredible and tough little tree is starting to get form and appearence :)

Stage one

After "motorsaw session".

First growth in spring after motorsaw drilling!
First spring wireing of a new shoots.
Today, the autumn leaves are gone. The tree is ready for more wireing.

This is the result of second wireing. Basic form is starting to emerge.
This is fine for me for now. The trunk will be further drilled at the end of winter to finish this approximate cuts done with a motorsaw. So, this is it for now.
This tree is indestructible and grows like crazy. What a life energy! At the end this little prunus will be cca 40 cm high.

Papa Pall came for a visit!

We have had a beautiful two days with Walter Pall. He came to visit us and he spent an evening and a morning in our home and garden. We were discussing trees and other friendly matters. Walter is not longer a guest in our home, he is more like a part of the family.
Well, except "too big", he spent a positive word or two about our trees, and that means very much to me. I always like to know if I'm on the "right way".
I believe that Walter felt comfortable in our home and our company, and I'm sure that he will keep on coming back every year. We are happy to have him.
Thanks Walter!

Enough for 2009!

My dear friends...this probably closes 2009 season of collecting. It is already very cold in high mountains and the winds are sometimes severe. But, it has been enough. This season has yielded many good and a few very good starter trees for bonsai. From now on, during the winter, there will be some wireing and drilling and some very basic styling of new material that has matured for the next step. And with that, cold winter months will pass. There will be no more talk of collecting 'till February when comes the time for The King between all deciduous trees...his majesty Carpinus orientalis. Even now I can hardly wait.
Than we will have more extreeme yamadori collecting trips in rocky areas where this beautiful beasts grow.

Yamadori Area

This is a new part of SandevBonsai Blog. Yamadori Area will be a subblog where all freshly collected material will be presented, furthermore, some yamadori locations together with fotos of collecting trips will be there. From now on, this kind of posts will not be on the main Blog any more. As I believe that this is not interesting to everybody and that some informations and collecting plans are "for friends only", please, if you wish to have access to this part of The Blog send me an e-mail, introduce yourself and I will let you in.
You are welcome!

Mugo "Constrictor" and "Prometheus"

Another collecting trip and more beautiful pine trees.
It was nice and sunny day.
This first tree is a fantastic mugo with natural shari. Cascading type of tree. I like this one very very much. At the end of this post, you can see it in a training pot.
The name that was given to him is "Prometheus". The tree was bound to the rock with a
claw-like shari and exposed to the elements for many years. Because of that, the tree has naturaly dead branches and shari. Prometheus is beautiful and elegant, and at the same time old and gnarled.

My darling.

This tree was growing on the top of a large rock. When two or three larger roots were cut off, the tree was lifted from the rock with complete and incredibly dense root ball.
This is a second collected tree. This is Pinus mugo "Constrictor". It looks like a giant snake, like a giant Boa constrictor. It is turned and twisted many times, around and around.

Twists and turns are fantastic. I cannot say which side is more interesting.
FS
Have you seen such a snake! And look at this mass of twisted wood!? It is huge. This tree also came out with a very good and dense root ball.
